Seven Types of dishes for Feast

Mangalore, an important port-city on the Konkan coast is emerging as an educational and industrial hub.

A melting pot of communities like Beary Muslims, Mangalorean Catholics, Saraswath Brahmins, and Bunts to name a few, the local cuisine is a delicious reflection of this amalgamation. Some of the ingredients that play an important role in this cuisine are coconut, rice, dried red chillies, garlic, ginger, curry leaves and tamarind. Like all coastal communities, fish is an indispensable part of the everyday meal. The Mangalore fish curry, chicken ghee roast as well as other classics like Kori Roti, Neer Dosa.

From breakfast to dinner, from starter to dessert; Mangalore brings us a variety of food, some mentioned below.

Pilikula Nisargadhama


The Pilikula Park is part of the great Pilikula project which includes, Pilikula Biological Park, Science Centre, Mansa Water park.

According to the locals , lake was once a haunt of Tigers, Hence it got to be called as Pilikula which means Tiger Lake.

Prior to the Pilikula project, the Pilikula Lake, which was once a large water body, had degenerated into becoming a small pond and was on the verge of being lost completely. However after being adopted for restoration under Pilikula project, it has been desilted and retrieved to its original glory; now having water spread area of 5.00 acres and a depth of 30 feet.

Beautification of the lake surroundings with lush green  lawns and gardens, the facilities of boating and introduction of fresh water fish, ducks and geese in the lake, today attract a large number of visitors to this area for leisure and recreation

The park constantly undertakes further desilting and expansion activities around the lake. Other developments at the lake include expansion of the gardens, walking / jogging paths, rest areas for senior citizens, drinking water facilities, shelter etc.

Milagres Church (Mangalore)


The Milagres Church 
Portuguese: Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Milagres
English: Church of Our Lady of Miracles

Is one of the historic Roman Catholic Church situated in the Hampankatta locality of Mangalore. The church was built in 1680 by Bishop Thomas de Castro, a Theatine from Divar, Goa.

The original structure was constructed at the site of the present-day cemetery. It is one of the oldest churches in Dakshina Kannada.

The Old Milagres Church was demolished by the ruler Tipu Sultan along with the other churches of Mangaluru.

Later after Tipu Died the Church was reconstructed by captive Mangalorean Catholic who returned back. one among them was was a baker Lawrence Bello, who built a chapel to replace the demolished church, on the site of the present church at a cost of Rs. 400. 

The present church is build in the year 1911 after the 1811 church completed its 100 years when  the facade of the church collapsed.

The special statues at the church are of Mother Mary, Guardian angel and other angels. Which were recently renovated for the 100 years of celebration in 2011 and changed to silver grey color.

Bandar Port


Mangaluru located at the the Dakshin Kannada district, with a close connection to the Arabian Sea making it a hub for Business and various form trades. One of the biggest trading is of Fishes. 
Every morning when Mangaloreans are still asleep;This part of the city is awake, Beginning their day by collecting their share of fishes from the fisher men who reach Bandar Port.

With around 300 boat reaching the port for  their dealers and exporters of fishers, the port looks busy.
